(Part 2: concluding part)
“Perseverance is a familiar word, but what exactly it means?”
“To make it short, it is never giving up till you achieve your goals. The ability to get up whenever you fall. It’s not the number of times you fall, but your ability to get up every time you fall which matters. There may be very difficult tasks to perform where obstructions are many and unforeseen too. Sometimes even one feels to give up everything and leave. That is when you have to hold on and move ahead with more vigour. Perseverance is an inborn quality. Do you remember how many times you have fallen before you started walking as a child? It’s countless. And you never gave up.”
“Then, why is it not activated automatically when needed?”
“Because you only have deactivated this faculty, because of so many factors, like peer pressure, pressure from society, close relatives, fear of failure, lack of confidence, etc.”
“But how to regain it?”
“Here comes our best friend ‘self-confidence’. Self-confidence and perseverance go together. self-confidence is the self-motivator, which you can always count on. It’s not like external motivators which may change depending on situations, and external motivator is not under your control.
“So, what’s your final take in this?”
“The best combination is self confidence and perseverance. You can achieve your goals. Have you heard of king Robert Bruce? He ruled Scotland when it was not part of England. He fought with the king of England six times and was defeated miserably all the time. He had to run for his life. But he was determined to fight to regain his country.
He was resting in a cave which was covered with spider net. He noticed while he was resting in the cave, that one spider was weaving a net from one side of the wall to the other, but the net broke off. The spider was doing this for six times, but the result was the same. Then the spider started to spin a web from the other side at a different angle, and it was successful this time. The king got inspired and he started to plan different strategies and ultimately decided to fight with the king of England. He won the battle.
All failures bring lessons to learn. Make necessary corrections and strategies and fight with more vigour. Victory will be yours.”
